It provides you with all the basic features you would expect from a video editor, as well as some advanced ones. OpenShot was originally created for Linux, as a free and open source video editing solution. The user interface is laid out like that of other video editors. Imported files are displayed in the upper left part of the window and you can preview the files or your montage with an embedded player, located on the right side. Besides your imported project files, the software displays a series of predefined transitions and special effects, in the same area, but on separate tabs. Transitions can be clicked and dragged, like all other elements, between two video segments and you can also resize them, to increase or decrease their duration. Additionally, you can drag and drop special effects over a video segment and make a series of fine adjustments on those effects.

OpenShot provides you with a good number of output options. You can choose to export your montages in DVD or Blu-ray format and you can also choose between various output profiles, to optimize your productions for the web or for specific devices.
